ACT Writing and New SAT Essay Requirements. The redesigned SAT, with its optional essay, forced many colleges to nursing care examples, revisit policies. A major shift has taken place in essay requirements for the SAT and ACT, and there may be additional changes for the classes of 2018 and 2019. Of the 360 colleges and universities in the Compass 360 , fewer than 10% require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing (see below for the complete list). Early on, high profile schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Stanford, and the University of California system affirmed their commitment to the SAT Essay and the recently revamped ACT Writing. Meanwhile, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Cornell, Northwestern, and sirens, Boston College adopted policies that dropped the essay for both ACT and nursing plan, SAT. College Board and what is otaku, ACT maintain lists of essay policies, but students should not depend upon them. College Board#8217;s is new and very incomplete. ACT#8217;s is old and stale (i.e. Why Do People Commit. includes no information on recent drops). In general, the testing companies do an uneven job in keeping such resources up-to-date. Compass goes directly to what is otaku, the colleges for the latest information.

The following table of 360 popular colleges provides a wide range of nursing, institutions and what is otaku, policies. In general, we find that less competitive colleges are less likely to require either essay. Despite the decline in colleges requiring an SAT or ACT essay, Compass is still recommending that students make the essay a part of their testing plans. Care Examples. Skipping the essay can leave a student scrambling to fit in an additional test date should his or her college plans change. Some colleges requiring the essay will not superscore test dates without the essay. The University of California system alone drives the decision for many of people crime, Compass#8217; students. Just as important, it#8217;s uncommon for an ACT or SAT essay to be a significant negative factor on an application. With a minimum amount of practice, most students can reach the 25th 75th percentile score ranges of even the most elite colleges in the country #8212; something not at all true about nursing care, other sections of the exams. In other words, there is more upside to nursing care plan examples, downside when looking at , having a longer #8212; and somewhat more expensive #8212; test day.

ACT and SAT Essay Requirements - Class of 2018 and Beyond. *School has a Test Optional or Test Flexible policy but may still have requirements for students choosing to submit SAT or ACT scores. Note: #8220;TBD#8221; or [blank] reflects a policy to care examples, be determined by the college or for which Compass has insufficient information. Post a comment or send an barnes noble uk email to [email protected] with questions or recommended changes. The Compass 360 provides New SAT and ACT scores for some of the most competitive colleges in the country. Subject Test requirements continue to evolve, so Compass keeps an examples up-to-date list. ACT Writing scores have gone through multiple changes. To try to clear things up, Compass has published ACT Writing Scores Explained. A similar analysis for the SAT is also available.

Art graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he was the top-ranked liberal arts student in his class. Art pioneered the one-on-one approach to test prep in California in 1989 and nursing examples, co-founded Compass Education Group in 2004 in order to bring the best ideas and tutors into students' homes and computers. Although he has attained perfect scores on all flavors of the SAT and ACT, he is routinely beaten in backgammon. [#8230;] Chart Compiled by Compass Prep [#8230;] Do you think the ACT Board will re-examine the inadequacies of the writing score and re-scale so it makes more sense? My daughter rec#8217;d a 27 but it was the 95th percentile. Low number for high percentile. Hernando. She also rec#8217;d 10s in each of the 4 domains. Compass would certainly like if they did #8212; or at least published full data on examples what they are seeing. Sirens From. My guess is that they will not monkey with the scales, however. Once a scale is set, it#8217;s not a simple thing to reset, as it impacts everyone else who has ever taken the test. ACT has left its other scales unchanged since 1989.

It is regrettable that ACT decided to move to 1-36 for Writing #8212; especially before it was ever administered. Recent experiences have proved what we expected #8212; the essay is simply not reliable enough to nursing care examples, take its place beside the other scores. Keep in minimum wage in usa mind that everyone is facing the same situation. Writing scores, in general, are more tightly clustered than raw scores on examples the other tests. Barnes Noble Uk. Colleges will see this on their reports. And as you see above, many are dropping their policies and few have ever given much weight to Writing. It sounds like your daughter did quite well, and that remains true even if her 27 is #8220;lower#8221; than her other scores. Thank you for compiling this list and adding to it throughout the year as other schools may adjust their essay policies. This information is very helpful. You are welcome! We will stay on top of it. [#8230;] the NEW SAT Writing section, which will not, and which require the ACT writing section.

This list is quite helpful! Compass also maintains a list of colleges that require SAT Subject [#8230;] Thank you for scarlet letter the helpful list. I was just wondering how you are obtaining your information? I didn#8217;t see anything on Duke#8217;s site about the new SAT essay the College Board#8217;s list doesn#8217;t mention Duke at all. If College Board doesn#8217;t mention the school at all on its list, do you think it#8217;s risky to assume the essay is not required? Also, do you have any sense of whether schools would ever do a reverse decide to start requiring the essay even if they previously didn#8217;t? I#8217;d rather not do the essay, but will if I have to. Thanks again for your help! Good questions. When we could not find a definitive answer on a school#8217;s website, we contacted the admissions office directly.

Duke is notable because it is keeping its ACT requirement but only , recommending the SAT essay. Nursing Care Plan. It has a convoluted rationale involving the Subject Tests. Pearl Scarlet. The College Board list is opt-in, I believe. Schools can submit their information to College Board. As you have found, not all have done so.

I also don#8217;t expect the CB list to be maintained as policies shift. We will be doubling the size of our own list (to 200 of the top colleges) within the next week. The reverse is possible only for nursing examples the ACT, since all old SAT students took the essay (although it is true that not all colleges used the essay). Hernando Cortes Voyages. I know of no college moving in that direction, and I think it highly unlikely given the criticism of the new ACT Writing (1 school out of a thousand, perhaps). My daughter took the ACT with writing and scored a 32 for the composite score but only a 23 for writing. I have two questions. One is whether she can submit the ACT but somehow choose not to submit the writing section, and the other is whether it makes sense to pay for them to re-score it. Care. Thanks in advance for your answer. No, your daughter can only submit the test in its entirety. It is up to college policies to determine what they will do with it.

I don#8217;t like to be cavalier with other people#8217;s money, but my general advice is that a rescoring is merited if a student is disappointed with his or her score. Personally, I#8217;d like to see every April test-taker march on Iowa City with $50 in wage in usa one hand and a protest sign in the other. But that last bit has nothing to nursing examples, do with your daughter#8217;s situation. I#8217;d also consider two ideas: 1) College#8217;s think little of the ACT Writing. Pearl Letter. Most never used it in the first place, and even more are dropping it now that schools no longer have to worry about the (formerly) required SAT essay. Even those that require it put far less stock in it than any other test score. Care Plan. 2) The mean score of the Writing is misleadingly lower than that of the other sections. Her 23 is 83rd percentile according to the figures released by ACT. In the other 4 subject areas, scores from 25-28 are at that percentile. Why Do People Commit. A 23 seems lower than it is because of our natural reaction to compare it directly to other 1-36 scores.

Carnegie Mellon has dropped both SAT and ACT essay requirements. Joanna, thank you for the information. We#8217;ve updated Carnegie Mellon#8217;s policy and will be updating other schools shortly. More and nursing plan examples, more colleges are firming up policies for class of 2017). My son took the SAT and pearl scarlet letter, got a 1500 730 reading/writing 770 Math, but his supplemental wring essay he didn#8217;t far well how much weight will rice University put with that. Rice does not require the SAT essay. Although colleges will still see that score, it#8217;s rare that an essay-optional school would put much weight at all on minimum wage in usa it. I don#8217;t think you should be concerned about care plan examples, how Rice will view the score. I have a question regarding the SAT with essay. I have taken the SAT twice.

The first time i took the SAT with essay but the second one i did it without the essay. If i want to send my second SAT score to colleges can i use the essay score from my first SAT? Unfortunately, I do not know of any colleges that will combine SAT w/Essay with SAT w/o Essay scores. This creates a situation where #8212; even though most colleges do not require the essay #8212; most students are best advised to take the essay. This seems like over-testing that could easily be eliminated if colleges decided to superscore essay an why do non-essay results, but admission offices have not yet come around to that way of thinking. I#8217;m in the same boat as Arvind. My school required me to take the New SAT in March without the essay. I took the New SAT again in nursing examples May with the essay. Examples. I am really happy with my essay score and my FIRST Reading/Writing and Math score and I want to combine the two components. Colleges tend to move slowly in response to testing changes and often take direction from the testing organizations. Until this year, there was no ability to send an SAT score without an essay, so policies on pearl letter superscoring were irrelevant.

There was also the sense that #8220;we want all students to nursing care, be comparable, so if we require ACT w/Writing, then we are going to only accept scores from ACT w/Writing administrations.#8221; Now that both tests are essay optional and from the odyssey, the essays come at the end of the test (so there is no impact on test performance), it is completely illogical for superscoring colleges not to superscore the essay. But colleges have just not figured it out yet. I took old SAT three times, now i decided to take the new SAT in October. Will the colleges combine my old and new scores? since a lot of schools do not require essay portion, can i just not take it? Thanks! Also, I am looking at nursing care examples, Northeastern#8217;s website, it said that it required SAT with writing, does that mean that Northeastern require the new SAT essay portion? Are you looking at https://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/application-information/? This information appears to be for the class of care plan, 2016, because it is actually referring to the ACT with Writing.

Northeastern has decided not to hernando cortes voyages, require the new SAT essay or the ACT essay going forward. Colleges will not superscore sections across new and old SATs. They will accept both tests and, in most cases, will evaluate your application on your highest score. The catch is that if any of your target colleges require the essay, then you will not be able to use your new SAT score without an essay. Since you already have three old SAT scores, you would be able to use those. It#8217;s unfortunate that the 20% of universities requiring the essay are making it so difficult students to care plan, avoid the extra testing and expense. When a school says that the essay is optional, does that really mean it is not #8220;required#8221; but highly #8220;recommended#8221;. Because my son plays sports and they have #8220;optional#8221; workouts but really they aren#8217;t optional if you really want to make the team. They are required!! Terri, I really like that analogy.

It#8217;s apt for some colleges that claim to only #8220;recommend#8221; Subject Tests #8212; Stanford and Georgetown, for example. That has not come up on ACT Writing / SAT Essay. We#8217;ve tried to classify as #8220;Optional#8221; colleges that don#8217;t use the essay for care plan examples admission. There may be several cases where the essay score will be considered if submitted (unfortunately, one can#8217;t leave it off of a submitted test date). More common are schools that #8220;recommend#8221; the essay only what is otaku, because it is used for freshman composition placement. I have sons that scored 29 and care, 31 composite but only barnes noble uk, 17 on the writing. They took it again without writing and went up to 31 and nursing plan, 32. If certain schools they apply to DO require the writing, do you think they need to sirens the odyssey, retake it with writing again, or is the main focus really on composite score?

I#8217;m usually loathe to recommend retesting based on Writing alone, but the discrepancy between your sons#8217; Composite and Writing score and the fact that your sons have higher scores on barnes noble uk the test without Writing (which means *some* schools that require writing will not use the 31 and 32) makes me think that a retake would be useful. Scores in the low 20#8217;s are common enough that I don#8217;t think colleges will think much of them one way or the other. High scoring students with Writing scores in plan the teens may face more stigma. My son scored a 29 composite score overall on the ACT (32 English, 30 reading, 30 science 25 math) but a 16 on the essay. I believe that most of the schools that he may apply to do not require the writing portion. Care Examples. I am concerned however that a 16 on pearl the essay will hurt his chances. What do you suggest?

Also he has a learning disability which impacts his math score. Is the fact that his math score is significantly lower than his other scores a cause for concern? Should he address it in his application? When high scoring students receive Writing scores in the teens, I do grow concerned. In informal discussions with admissions officers, many fully admit that they don#8217;t put much weight on Writing. When asked if they might view a 15 as a red flag, they admit #8220;yes, that would raise eyebrows.#8221; Your son did very well, and nursing plan, I#8217;d hate to see him disadvantaged by the Writing score. I would recommend retesting if his schedule allows. If his learning disability impacts his math grades and testing overall, then you may find an opportunity to address it in what is otaku the application. Care Plan. If you are only concerned that it impacted his ability on a speeded test like the ACT, I would not recommend making an issue of it.

I scored 1350 in jun sat. is it an ok score for an international student aspiring to get in to a reasonably good university with computer science. I am also planning to why do commit crime, take math level 2 and physics subject tests.pl adv. I would recommend looking at examples, our college profiles with estimated new SAT score ranges. In general, you#8217;ll be competitive #8212; which is not the same thing as saying that you#8217;ll be admitted #8212; at what is otaku, colleges where your scores are closer to the 75th percentile than the 25th percentile. Nursing Plan. Students and parents often don#8217;t realize that the scores of voyages, admitted students are actually higher than the reported scores for enrolled students (we use the latter because not all college provide figures for admitted students). Keep in mind that test scores are only one part of your application.

They tend to nursing care examples, have a bit more weight for people commit crime international students, because admission officers are not always as familiar with the curriculum and minimum, grading standards of other countries. You have Georgetown University listed as required for both essay portions. However in the paragraph on page one it states: #8220;Other schools such as University of care plan examples, Chicago and Georgetown never adopted ACT Writing in cortes voyages the first place, ignored the original SAT essay, and will ignore the New SAT Essay. #8221; Can you clarify which is correct? We posted a set of care plan examples, updates yesterday that apparently had the faulty info on Georgetown. They definitely DO NOT require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing. Thank you for catching that error. We#8217;ll review today to see that nothing else got flipped by , mistake. I am hoping to apply Early Decision to Columbia this fall. I have taken the ACT and recieved a 34 composite but I got a 21 on the writing.

I#8217;m not sure how this is possible as I received a 36 on the English section, so I obviously understand language arts. Anyways, should I retake the test? I know the percentiles are shifted on the writing but it seems like a 21 would be a red flag. What Is Otaku. Also, I have not yet taken subject tests as most schools do not require them when submitting the ACTs. Should I plan on voyages taking those too? Would it be detrimental to my application if I have not taken them? Thank you so much for your help! This list is so useful! As you probably know, Columbia does not require the Writing. It will still be submitted with your ACT score, but the fact that it is optional for test takers gives you an idea of pearl letter, how important Columbia considers it #8212; not very.

The essay task and scoring system on the ACT writing are quite suspect, and nursing plan, colleges recognize it. We see many students with you composite, and the writing scores fall all over the board. I don#8217;t think the 21 will serve as a red flag. Columbia does not superscore the ACT, so this may impact your decision a bit. Scarlet. Retaking will only help you if you can raise your composite. Although retesting can#8217;t hurt you at Columbia (they will consider your highest scores), you#8217;ll need to consider the policies at the other schools on your list. Plan Examples. Because so many students at the top universities have great ACT or SAT scores, I do recommend that students *consider* Subject Tests. You#8217;ll only want to why do people commit crime, worry about them if you think that they can improve your testing portfolio.

In the case of elite schools like Columbia, that means 750+ (or at least 700+). You can try tests from the Official Guide published by College Board. Fewer schools than ever are requiring the Subject Tests #8212; especially with ACT scores. It would be a little challenging to voyages, fit them in nursing care (including preparing for them) as senior year starts and what is otaku, application season begins, so you may want to just sit tight with your ACT score. I recently read your post on the new ACT writing test and nursing care plan, found it to be very thorough and a little unsettling. I had two quick questions: My son is quite interested in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. People. He took the ACT in September. His ACT composite was 31 #8212; solidly in the school#8217;s range #8212; and barnes noble uk, he scored a perfect 36 on either the English/Reading component. But his writing score was 6 #8212; which, I think, falls somewhere in the 40th percentile.

Not strong. After reading your post, I#8217;m wondering how reliable those scores are. Do you recommend that he should take the test again? And on hernando cortes voyages this post, you indicate the writing test portion is #8220;optional#8221; for nursing care plan examples the Coast Guard Academy. But its website says it is required. Pearl Scarlet Letter. Can you shed some light on examples that? Thank you.

I#8217;ve got an email into USCGA to see if they can help clarify. You are correct that they appear to be in the #8220;Require#8221; camp, and we will update our information. Minimum Wage In Usa. They had previously left things ambiguous and have still not stated their policy on the College Board website. The other question I have for them has to nursing care, do with consideration #8212; is the essay used for admission? The superscoring example that they give in their testing FAQ and the score range summary only mentions CR and M from the old SAT. Did they also use Writing or was it just for placement or research? Is the same true of the ACT Writing? I#8217;d recommend contact them yourself, too. It#8217;s in the 6 range where I do start to have concerns. Probably less of one in commit crime your son#8217;s case because his ACT score is very solid for the Academy.

It sounds like his ELA score would be strong despite the low essay score. It#8217;s highly likely that he could improve his essay score upon retesting. I would try to push admissions for their take. Unless you can pin them down that it won#8217;t matter much, your son may want to think about taking the ACT again. I hate to see students commit to extra testing just because of Writing, but I#8217;d also hate to see your son not have everything working in his favor. Please update if you find anything new. I#8217;ll do the same. USCGA got back to me with the following response: #8220;The requirement to take the writing section is just to put all applicants on people the same playing field, it is not heavily weighed when considering an applicants competitiveness.#8221; It sounds like it would be unlikely to nursing care plan, impact your son#8217;s application #8212; especially since, given his other scores, there would no concern about his verbal abilities. Why Do Crime. Thank you for this very helpful post. Just wondering about Reed; the table specifies the writing sections as #8220;optional#8221; but the Updates paragraph includes Reed in the list of colleges for which the requirement for the SAT essay has recently been added? Thank you for pointing this out.

We had originally had misinformation on what is otaku Reed#8217;s policy. Care Plan. Our table was corrected, but the paragraph had not been fixed. Reed is essay optional for both the SAT and ACT. Sirens From. My son will be applying to Harvard and other schools. He took the new SAT in March and received a 790 CR, 800 Math and a 17 on nursing care the essay. He retook the new SAT in June and received a 770 CR, 790 Math and a 21 on the essay. Should he submit both scores so that Harvard sees the higher essay score? Or should he just submit the first score of 1590 with a 17 on the essay? Thanks for the help. This is very confusing! Given your son#8217;s circumstances, I would submit both scores.

First, Harvard superscores the SAT, so that makes the decision far easier. Even if the don#8217;t superscore the writing, your son would be no worse off. Second, neither of plan examples, his non-essay scores is a concern, so it is not as if Harvard would see a score that would scare them off. Hernando Cortes Voyages. While the difference between the 17 and 21 is minimal and the odyssey, is unlikely to impact your son#8217;s chances for plan admission, there is no reason for him to put his best scores forward. Sirens. If it#8217;s any solace, it#8217;s just as confusing for admission offices. Hello. I have done the new SAT with essay on October, and have got the required score for nursing care plan examples the essay, but not a good score for the SAT. If i retake the SAT without essay on December, would i be able to include the essay score which was done on scarlet letter October, Combined with the New SAT retaken score ( without essay) to colleges that requires the Essay.

Thank you. There is not a universal policy on this and colleges have not always clarified things. Some essay-requiring colleges #8212; the University of examples, California system is a prominent example #8212; do not accept test dates that do not include the essay. Superscoring institutions are more likely to mix-and-match as long as a student has taken the essay. As much as I hate recommending additional testing, retaking the essay in December ensures the most flexibility. It#8217;s unlikely that a lower essay score would hurt you, whereas it would defeat the purpose of your December testing if you can#8217;t use your EBRW and Math scores. Hello. The CR and Writing portions of the NEW SAT are two separate scores (out of 40).

Do colleges that superscore also superscore between CR and writing. For instance if I got a 35 CR and a 37 writing, then a 37 CR and a 36 writing would they view the highest scores separately (the 37#8217;s) or would they only look at the highest overall score out of 800 (720). I have not heard of any college that will be superscoring Evidence-Based Reading and pearl, Writing #038; Language separately. Nursing Care Examples. My head is swimming and I feel we have been worried for why do people 2 years already. Thank you for the list, it is very helpful. My son has a learning disability, which puts him at a complete disadvantage for nursing care the writing portion#8230; even with accommodations at 100% time and the use of why do commit, a computer/word processor to care plan examples, type#8230; his problem is such, that he does not retain spelling and grammar when translating them for practical use. The kicker, he is brilliant and a brilliant writer, aspiring to why do commit crime, write novels, plays, and for film and television. Plan Examples. However, he uses many learning tools to reach his end product.

This writing portion is just a nightmare for us in general and what is otaku, a source of high anxiety. So, if you could, please help me to clarify a few things; when you say, #8220;Compass expects that fewer than one-third of competitive colleges will require a standardized test essay for the fall of 2017 admission class.#8221;, are you referring to the students who will be attending College/University in the fall of 2017, or applying in care examples 2017/18 for attending fall 2018? My son will be graduating June 2018 and attending University that coming fall. How do these current tests guidelines apply to my son? Somehow, I was under the impression by spring of 2017, the essay portions were being eliminated entirely from the SAT and ACT. Is this correct? I thought it was understood, if we waited until March 2017 or later to test, there would not be any requirements for an essay portion on either test.

Therefore, College/University would not have the option to even require the written portion from the students beginning the application process in fall of 2017. Or am I completely turned around? Thank you for your time and pearl scarlet letter, attention. Let me see if I can help. There are no impending changes to the SAT or ACT essays. The ACT has always been optional for plan test-takers, and the SAT became optional as of March 2016. Neither will be dropped from the tests unless ACT and College Board suddenly come to their senses. Once the SAT essay became optional, however, many colleges reevaluated their requirements and decided to make the essay optional for nursing care plan examples their applicants. This shift happened in minimum wage in usa a big way.

The #8220;fewer than one-third#8221; is a huge understatement that I should probably correct. Of 360 of the top schools in the country, we#8217;ve found 24 that required an essay for class of 2017 (those applying right now). And that counts every UC campus independently! The percentage of from, schools outside the 360 who require the essay is even lower. I do not expect any college to add an essay requirement, and we may see a few more drops. If your son is planning on applying to Harvard or Duke or UCLA, then he will likely need the essay.

If he is not applying to those 24 schools, though, you can#8217;t chalk it off the list of concerns. It doesn#8217;t sound like your son is in care examples a position to just do some additional practice and ace the essay, so the best thing to do is to bypass it (and I don#8217;t say that very often). What if he has his heart set on one or some of those 24 colleges? Here is the plan I would recommend. If he has not already tried the essay, then he should. If you are near one of Compass#8217; CA offices, we can provide proctored testing. If you are not, we also do fee-based testing with online proctoring.

We grade essays in the same way that the College Board and ACT do. You may find that your concerns are overblown. If you don#8217;t, then I would recommend a two-pronged attack. Make plans for your son to take the official SAT or ACT without the essay, and to then take it with the essay. From. The idea of the first is that he can focus on acing the test without the stress of the essay looming over nursing care plan him. Then he can take the test with the essay so that he has an exam for hernando cortes voyages the colleges that require an essay. First, though, I would think carefully about where he is applying and whether the whole essay nonsense (and it is nonsense) can be avoided. Do colleges superscore with the essay?

For example, I took the new SAT in October and December and I want to use my composite score from care plan December and my essay score from October. The concept of the optional SAT essay is still new enough that not many colleges have explicitly stated their policies. Nursing Care Plan Examples. In general, I think it is safe to assume that superscoring colleges like to view scores through the #8220;most favorable#8221; lens and will consider your highest essay score. Also, keep in mind that your essay score is by far the least important score on your report. You don#8217;t mention your scores, but they might make a difference. For example, if you received good essay scores in December, it may not be worth submitting your October scores. My son took the SAT with essay in November. He plans to retake the SAT with out the essay in what is otaku the spring. He is applying to schools that do not require the essay.

We are confused by superscoring. Will colleges superscore the SAT with essay and the SAT without essay, or are they considered two separate tests that can not be superscored? As far as I know, all superscoring schools where the essay is optional will superscore between essay and non-essay exams. The tricky part is when colleges require the essay. In those cases, some college superscore (I#8217;d say that this is the majority), but a few do not. Why Do People Crime. It sounds like your son is in good shape. Boston University no longer requires the ACT writing.

Thank you, I#8217;ve updated our table. My son did well on the SAT (780, 780) but only a 16 on the essay. Is it worth taking the ACT? He also has AP Language this year, and it seems like a good grade and a good score on the AP will show he can write. He is looking at care plan, Stanford and Princeton as reach schools. (It probably doesn#8217;t matter to his safety schools) Thank you for insight.

The essay score is a very, very small part of a testing portfolio. His 16 may not be the score he wanted, but it is not so far off the norm for top scorers that I recommend a retest #8212; and certainly not a switch to the ACT given his strong SAT score. I expect 25th-75th percentile scores for enrolled students at barnes noble uk, even schools such as Stanford and Princeton to be in the 15-21 range. The benefit of being higher in that range is dubious. My daughter was recently approved for time accommodations and took the SAT yesterday for the first time. Because this would be her initial effort, we thought the best course, given the long day, would be to plan examples, have her take the SAT without essay this first round. The concept was that she#8217;d take some subject tests in cortes voyages May, then retake the SAT WITH the essay in barnes noble uk June or August. I hadn#8217;t realized that she would be unable to nursing care examples, superscore the two SAT#8217;s. This will be irrelevant if her second set of scores are higher across the board, but I now see that it could be problematic if that#8217;s not the case. I#8217;m trying to find a silver lining here, because nothing is to be done about yesterday. Only a few of the schools on her preliminary list require the essay.

For those schools, would there be any utility in sending in both sets of pearl scarlet letter, scores for examples general consideration, even if one set doesn#8217;t have the essay? The changing regulations certainly make for people commit crime a muddle of testing. Thanks for any insights you have to offer. Your site has been a great resource! She may not have a problem superscoring between her two administrations #8212; colleges have not always been clear on the topic. The UC system requires all scores to come from a single administration, but the University of Michigan, on the other hand, simply wants to see at least one Essay score.

Given the trend in requirements and the number of colleges that will likely superscore between the two administrations, I would not worry much about her decision to plan, skip the March essay. It sounds like it was the right decision for minimum her first SAT. The new August test also provides a nice added opportunity for the class of 2018. I agree with you about the muddle. Thank you!

What are your thoughts on Spanish with or without listening. The November test date for listening forces students to take the test the fall of care plan, junior without completing a full year of Spanish 4. Hernando Cortes Voyages. Georgetown uses the score for language placement. Should a non-native speaker bypass the November test date, complete Spanish 4, and take the test in June? I am a former Spanish teacher and nursing care plan, looked at the practice tests. Having A full year of Spanish 4 is extremely beneficial. What are your thoughts? Please ignore my original replay, as I misread your comment entirely.

The Spanish Subject Test #8212; like the other foreign language exams #8212; is challenging enough for what is otaku students to do well on even with 3 full years of high school language. I would definitely recommend that students take the additional 7 months and plan examples, wait for the June date. If Listening is important, then it can always be taken in November of senior year (it dates to a time when senior year testing was more the norm). The FAQ section for Brown has some conflicting info. They state that the SAT or ACT with writing is required. They also provide the link to nursing care plan, the College Board which indicates that Brown neither requires nor recommends the writing section. Do you have any idea which one is correct? I see what you are referring to. Barnes Noble Uk. It seems that on this page and on the first-year application page, Brown is saying that they do require the essay/writing. That conflicts with what we found last year and with the College Board information to which they link.

I have contacted Brown in pearl scarlet letter an effort to get clarification. I#8217;ve confirmed with Brown that the requirement of SAT w/Essay or ACT w/Writing is new for the class of 2018. The College Board information is outdated. Care Examples. We#8217;ll be changing the information on our site, of course. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Trying to add to the info on your site, because your site has helped me. My son (in FL) scored 1540 on the first SAT but 17/24 on from the essay. He retook the test on the #8220;SAT School Day#8221; (so it was free) . He told me that the free version was much more difficult than the earlier test that he had taken. His recent score of nursing examples, 1460 reflected his assessment.

But we looked into the essay and what we learned is below. His essay score on the recent SAT was 24/24. He went from a 17/24 to a 24/24 after doing this. Pearl. (I am not associated with anyone, just a parent trying to help my son.) Maybe this info will help some other parents or kids taking the SAT. I am no expert, and plan, my son#8217;s writing did NOT improve in 2 months time. He just gave the reviewers what they wanted in hernando cortes a format to allow them to check boxes. Write longer#8230; +700 words if possible. Be positive about the speech / work that you are reviewing (never negative) Don#8217;t analyze the speech (what they could have done better), point out how he/she elicited or what they did/said to elicit the response that he/she wanted.

Looks like the easiest/best way to do this is: (intro/body/conclusion style) Paragraph 1 = Introduction, short summary of how he/she elicits reaction. Paragraph 2-4 = pick a few specific examples and care plan examples, elaborate on what is otaku those examples from your introduction (how they elicited the response/ or intended to) Paragraph 5 = conclusions say what a great job they did, and nursing examples, confirm some of the introduction. You may want to quickly outline your 3 body paragraphs first then start on your introduction, so you don#8217;t miss something in your introduction and scarlet, are erasing/trying to go back and include it. Watch the videos in this series: Look at these essay examples: Thank you, Kelly. Examples. I#8217;ve shared your suggestions. Minimum Wage In Usa. Hi Art. Nursing Plan Examples. My son who is class of 2018 took the SAT w/o the essay, scored well at a 1460. He did take the essay with the ACT however got 32 composite and 10 on the essay (in the fall so using the new ACT essay score).

If he#8217;s applying to one of the colleges that requires an essay, will the fact that he did take the ACT essay fulfill the essay requirement? Or will he HAVE to submit an SAT essay score too? Thanks for a new and interesting twist on this question. I#8217;m quite sure that I haven#8217;t seen any college specifically address the it #8212; other than, perhaps, the UC system which has always demanded that scores be from a single administration (so an ACT essay won#8217;t be combined with an SAT total score). Cortes. My guess is that most essay-requiring colleges would look askance at a mix-and-match approach. His ACT score is just as strong has his SAT score, though, so I#8217;m not sure that it is much of a concern. If he decides to repeat the SAT, I would advise him to take the essay.

Do superscoring colleges superscore the SAT essay? My daughter got a better SAT score in March (1560) but only 17 on why do people commit crime essay. Last November she got 1520 but 24 on plan essay. Not sure how colleges will view this. Also for barnes noble uk colleges that need one score, will the 1560 with 17 on essay look bad?

Any advise is appreciated. It#8217;s a question that only a few colleges have addressed directly. To my knowledge, there are no superscoring colleges that have said that they will not superscore the essay. Colleges that superscore choose to view students#8217; scores in the most favorable light, so I don#8217;t think they will choose to handle essay scores differently. Your daughter#8217;s 24 is extraordinary; her 17 is inline with what we see from many top-scoring students. It should not be a concern. People Commit Crime. My daughter is a Junior and took the January 2017 SAT and scored a 1280 (640 and 640 splits) but scored a 23/24 on the Essay.

In March 2017, she scored a 1450 (750 Evidence based reading writing and nursing care examples, 700 Math) but did not retake the essay. She is also looking to retake the SAT again in August to try to boost the Math section. Do you know how some of the top colleges will view this (particularly those requiring the essay) as her best sitting score wasn#8217;t on the same date as her essay? Also if her Math improves in August, she will have her best three components on three different dates. Will this hurt her chances at why do people commit, some of the top schools? Colleges that superscore will generally look at the highest scores across each section #8212; including the Essay. Some schools that require the Essay simply want the Essay taken at commit crime, least once (University of nursing plan, Michigan falls in this group). Other colleges #8212; such as the University of California system #8212; will only consider test dates that include the Essay. Colleges have not been particularly helpful in nailing down their policies. Keep in mind that some colleges #8212; Yale and Stanford, for the odyssey example #8212; will require all her scores and consider them in nursing care a more holistic fashion. The #8220;hurt her chances#8221; part is glass half-full/empty.

Having her best scores on what is otaku a single test date would make things cleaner all around. On the other hand, a higher Math score in care plan August will still be a higher score. She certainly showed great progress from January to March, so it seems like she can put up good scores. Barnes Noble Uk. I would recommend that she take the Essay again. Even if she scores lower (and the statistics on the Essay make it likely), my feeling is that it is more important to have a test date that can be used everywhere than it is to skip the Essay because she already nailed it. Nursing Examples. For example, at commit crime, a Score Choice college, I#8217;d be more comfortable seeing a student submit only a 730ERW / 730M 6/6/6 Essay than having to nursing care, also submit the 640/640. From The Odyssey. Our situation is a bit the reverse of care plan, Brad#8217;s. My son scored a 1350 on his first SAT (740 Math, 610 Evidence Based Reading Writing) and a 5/3/5 on the Essay. He then took his second SAT at pearl scarlet, school (in NYC), and scored 1540 (780 Math, 760 Evidence Based Reading Writing) but the NY DOE did not offer the Essay. Is it possible to Super score, using the complete second SAT (1540) and the Essay from the first SAT? And if so, can we extract that Essay score on plan its own, or will we need to send the entire SAT scores from the first test (1350) ? Would prefer for schools not to see the lower score at all, but at least to submit the Essay from why do that test would be what we need. Nursing Plan. [Edit: Art, I read many of the questions from the others after I sent you mine, many of which are similar.

Just to what is otaku, clarify I was asking this: if colleges don#8217;t super score the optional essay from one test with another entire SAT test (no essay taken), and my son wants to apply to schools where Essay is required, would you suggest we send both complete SAT tests? Thanks again!] Many thanks, Diana. Nursing Examples. I#8217;m sorry to hear that the NY DOE did not offer the Essay. There is no ability to send just the Essay score. The only why do people commit crime, case where he would not send the first SAT is where a college does not require the Essay. Nursing Examples. His second scores are better all around, so he can ignore the first exam in those cases. Pearl Letter. The school policies would determine how favorably his scores get treated. In the case of college superscoring across tests w/ and nursing care examples, w/o essays, he is in excellent shape. His Essay score is, perhaps, a little weak given his overall scores. What would concern me is if he applies to hernando cortes, colleges where only tests with Essays are used.

The difference between his EBRW scores is substantial. I#8217;d suggest at least considering repeating the SAT. Why Do People Commit Crime. As you#8217;ve likely read, I prefer students not re-take the SAT just to raise an nursing plan Essay score. But the 190 point difference in total score is impossible to ignore. This only matters if your son is applying to colleges that will not combine his scores. Nursing Examples. For example, UCLA would only consider his 1350. That#8217;s the exception, though, so I would recommend examining his target colleges closely. Thank you for all of this useful information!

My son took the ACT 3 times: 1) 34 C 35 W 35 M 35 R 31 S (no essay) 2) 34 C 35 W 36 M 35 R 28 S (essay 8) 3) 35 C 35 W 36 M 34 R 35 S (essay 8) Do you see any reason to send anything other than the third score? I know that his reading was one point higher on the first two but not sure if that matters. Thanks so much! I really appreciate any insight. No, I don#8217;t see any reason to send scores 1 or 2 (except where a college requires all scores). In theory, score #2 provides a slightly higher R, but it would not change his overall composite of 35 even at why do people commit crime, schools that superscore. There are problems with the other scores (the 28 Science on nursing #2 and in usa, the lack on an essay on #1) that make me think your son should keep it simple. My son is interested in UVA and was wondering if he needs to take SAT subject tests to nursing plan, apply this school. The subject tests are optional for UVA. Also he took SAT math2 in May and received 740.

Is 740 an ok score? Thank you so much! Your son does not need to take Subject Tests. UVA used to #8220;strongly recommend#8221; the tests, but they have downgraded their policy to barnes noble uk, #8220;Subject Test optional.#8221; As with many #8220;recommended#8221; or #8220;optional#8221; colleges, Subject Tests can demonstrate a student#8217;s strengths. Yes, a 740 is strong enough that I think it is worth sending. If your son has academic strengths in other areas #8212; chemistry or biology, for example #8212; then he might consider trying the exams. Nursing Examples. I am a student who recently scored a 35 composite score on the ACT without writing. I took it without writing because it was my first time and I was expecting to what is otaku, get a lower score that I could later improve upon.

I would like to plan, submit this score to the colleges I am applying to, but some of the colleges require the writing portion and will therefore not accept my 35 composite without writing. Nursing. I plan on retaking the ACT with writing, but I am afraid I will score less than a 35. If I score less than a 35, should I send both my 35 without writing and my lower score with writing? Will colleges like Brown and Stanford even accept this? Thank you for why do people your help. Sorry to examples, hear that the lack of a Writing section poses a problem, but congratulations on your great score! Since you are applying to colleges that require Writing, you know that you will be repeating. I would focus on the positive. While colleges have not been good about stating policies on the topic, most seem to be leaning toward considering all scores (the UC system is a notable exception). As an #8220;all scores#8221; school, Stanford emphasizes the testing portfolio, so I#8217;d be surprised if they ignored your 35.

There is no reason *not* to send your 35 unless you do even better next time. At the very worst, a college can ignore it, but I would encourage you to from, put it in their hands. I#8217;m shaping myself on my application as a writing student. I#8217;m Editor-in-Chief of two publications at my school and have won a few prestigious writing competitions. I got a 1580 on nursing plan examples my SAT, but a 6/5/6 on my essays. I want to what is otaku, go to UPenn and am wondering if I should retake the SAT to bump my essay score. I don#8217;t know if my good writing extracurriculars will outweigh my poor essay score or if my poor essay score will delegitimize by good writing extracurriculars. What should I do? Please do not retake the SAT. Your editorships, writing awards, and application essays will do the work, and scarlet letter, your essay scores will not get in the way.

In fact, should you go to Penn, you#8217;ll likely find that your essay scores are the exact median of examples, your classmates#8217; scores. The SAT Essay is a task in search of a mission. Don#8217;t let it distract you from yours. Hernando Voyages. Hello Art Sawyer, My son took ACT couple times in his 10th grade and got composite scores for 35 and 36. His essay scores both times was 8. Plan Examples. He is thinking of applying for engineering major at University of Michigan, Stanford and UC Berkeley. Wondering how are the chances with low essay score and do i need to send both scores to universities. Appreciate your insights.

Stanford expects students to send all ACT scores unless it will be a financial burden (because ACT requires payment for each reporting date). The UC#8217;s and Michigan will look at your son#8217;s highest scores. Scarlet. I would send both scores simply because it allows you to do the same things for all schools (there is no college where a 35 will hurt him). Nursing Care Examples. His 8 is at the lower range of enrolled students at wage, those colleges #8212; which would see a range of 8-10 for 25th to 75th percentile. Nursing Examples. This means, though, that at least 25% of enrolled students have an 8 or lower. Even that distribution is more a reflection of the applicant pool than it is the importance of the essay. I would not worry about the score. Nursing Plan. I have taken the ACT three times but only the first sitting was with Writing. Nursing Examples. For schools I#8217;m interested in that are #8220;writing optional#8221; such as BC and Notre Dame I#8217;m assuming the admissions process will consider all my test dates regardless of barnes noble uk, whether that date had he writing section scored or not? For some schools Harvard, Princeton, Duke and Dartmouth, will they not consider scores from the dates I didn#8217;t take the writing section? You are correct about the writing optional schools.

Things are a little dicier when it comes to care, schools that require the essay, and admission offices have not been great about communicating policies. The elite schools you mention often take a #8220;portfolio#8221; approach. Nursing Care Examples. While they will often emphasize your higher scores, they like to evaluate the full record. In your case, this works in your favor, as they will likely consider your test dates without Writing. If a college requires ACT with writing and does not superscore (website says they look at , the highest composite score from one sitting) does this mean they will not consider any ACT scores that were not taken writing? There is not one answer. If you want to care, name names, I can at least let you know if I have any firm word on that school. The most obvious example of must-be-on-the-same-test-date is the University of California system. My son took the new SAT w/Essay got a 1590 but a 15 on Essay. Took two subject tests: Math2: 730, Chemistry 710. Unweighted GPA 4.0, Took 15 AP#8217;s: APLang 5, APLit 5, AP CALC AB and BC 5 on both, AP Chem 5, AP Bio 5, AP Physics 1= 4, plus many more (all 5#8217;s except for a 4 on Latin) but not relevant to my question.

Should he retake either of the Subject tests in the case of plan, Harvard or Princeton and if majoring in Biomedical Engineering, or do they weigh in his AP scores as well in that regards, or what if he decides to major in law, would that change anything. I believe they use this formula for a thing called the Academic Index Score based on nursing care plan examples Subject Tests, SAT, GPA, and , class rank, his school does not rank so his Academic Index score comes to nursing care plan, 231. Is that good enough? Does Harvard and Princeton even utilize this AIS anymore since they now say they are taking a more holistic approach? On another topic I have another child who scored 1460 SAT w/essay (21), she plans to retake SAT. She is interested in Stanford and in usa, we wanted to care examples, know if she took it again without the essay if they would superscore the two SAT#8217;s and plan examples, they said yes. Here was their response: #8220;Hello, We require ALL the scores from ALL the tests taken and barnes noble uk, will consider the highest scores from all the results, including the tests without the writing portion. Best, Office of nursing care examples, Undergraduate Admission Stanford University#8221; The Academic Index Score causes a great deal of pearl letter, confusion. AIS is not used for admission (with an wage exception important for only a slice of students). The Ivy League is, first and foremost, a sports league.

In order to maintain parity and academic standards, the universities have agreed on how to compare student athletes to the rest of the student body. The holistic factors for admission aren#8217;t of much use here. How do you compare #8220;Her essay blew me away#8221; at Dartmouth to the same reaction at sirens, Harvard? How do you compare the perception of academic rigor or legacy status or artistic ability etc.? So the universities have a straightforward formula of GPA and test scores. Because the AIS is used for nursing care athletes, it can come into play in the case of recruited athletes. A useful article at The Crimson is here. Back to barnes noble uk, your son#8217;s Subject Test scores. I do think there is room for improvement.

While they are good scores, they would probably put him toward the lower end when compared to admitted students. AP scores can be thought of care, as a part of his coursework than part of his testing portfolio. APs are not designed to be admission tests. Most colleges will at least take a look at barnes noble uk, them, but his grades in those courses are likely more important than his test scores. Care. Thank you for the update on Stanford. I#8217;m glad to minimum wage in usa, add another college to the common sense category regarding the essay (although dropping it might be even better). Despite Stanford#8217;s all caps ALLs, the answer neglects to nursing care plan examples, mention that they mean SATs and people commit crime, ACTs. They specifically do not require reporting of all Subject Tests. His grades in the AP Classes that correlate to the subject tests were high A#8217;s (without the AP score incorporated), since his school incorporates the AP score into care examples, the final grade on the transcript.

One thing that concerns me for a few other classes where he had a 92 before the AP was incorporated (which is considered an A- at his school, but with the AP score incorporated it got bumped up to an A) is that I#8217;ve read that colleges don#8217;t like that and prefer that the class grade be separate from the AP score. Do admissions sometimes request the high school give them the class grade without the AP incorporated? Colleges typically use unadjusted GPA when looking at transcripts. For example, some schools give an A in an AP class a 5.0 rather than a 4.0. Your school#8217;s situation sounds like it may be different. If the only course grade on your son#8217;t transcript is an A and what is otaku, your school reports this as a 4.0, then I#8217;m not sure how a college would work backwards. This falls out of my area of expertise, though, so I don#8217;t want to make any definitive statements. Art it looks like my son will be a NMSF from Virginia and he scored 1570 on nursing plan his SATs.

Unfortunately, he only barnes noble uk, got a 14 on the essay, because he did not prepare at all. He is planning to barnes noble uk, apply to the most competitive schools including schools that require the essay. He is planning to care plan, retake the essay, but is worried that his SAT scores will drop. Any recommendations for us? As you#8217;ve probably gleaned, I usually try to talk students out of repeating the SAT when the only goal is to increase the essay score. It#8217;s far less important than the EBRW/Math components even at nursing care plan, colleges that require it.

It is hard to imagine that many scenarios where it is the decision maker. The 25th-75th score range for the essay is likely to be 5-7 (in each area), so your son#8217;s score is not that out-of-whack. As you may also have gleaned, I#8217;m a believer in supporting students. If your son wants to raise his Essay score and is willing to repeat the SAT, then I#8217;d encourage him to nursing care examples, focus on the positive. He is a Semifinalist from VA and scored a 1570, so he knows his stuff. A #8220;drop#8221; is not going to be significant and sirens from, is completely irrelevant for superscoring colleges. My only recommendation would be to make sure that he continues preparing for the V/M as he tries to improve his Essay.

He can#8217;t go into the test just thinking #8220;gotta do great on the Essay,#8221; especially since the Essay comes at nursing care plan examples, the end. I#8217;m sure he#8217;ll do fine. very helpful. thanks so much. Hello Art My daughter plans on applying to several ivies. On her first SAT with Essay she received 22 on her essay, but was not happy with her overall SAT score. Recently, in August, she retook the SAT without the essay. She is happy with her August SAT score of 1550. Will Yale, for what is otaku example, allow her to use the August SAT score along with the essay score from nursing care her previous SAT test? I understand she must submit all her scores when she applies and am hoping her essay score will be accepted although it was not taken with her August SAT.

Thank you! Almost all of the admission offices that we have talked to people, are happy to see at least one testing with an plan essay and are ok if other sittings do not include an essay. The UC system is a major exception, and UCLA now gets more applications than any school in the country. I have not spoken to Yale, but it has its #8220;send all scores#8221; policy because it prefers to take a holistic review. There is no reason to think that Yale will ignore her 1550. I appreciate your reply. Thank you!

essay eyes wide shut Here we are, ten years after the care, release of Stanley Kubrick's final film (and, of course, his death). I feel I'm at a point with Eyes Wide Shut where it's virtually impossible for hernando cortes me to have an honest opinion of the film anymore. I've watched it and analyzed it, in part, at least 100 times, mostly for the writing of the 2002 essay below (there's plenty I've left out -- kisses, alcohol vs. coffee, etc.) -- plus I've read countless articles about its creation, spoken to nursing examples, Todd Field about rehearsals and camera placement, and I even interviewed SK's longtime collaborator Leon Vitali. I believe that EWS is the one film he made just for himself. Minimum Wage. He didn't appear to be trying to impress anybody, just creating a personal work of art he'd been planning for 30 years -- filling it with subtle references to plan examples, his own life. Ultimately, EWS is a fascinating film to study, but that study comes with caveats. We know for a fact that although the the odyssey, picture edit was left untouched at the time of his death, the released film was not his final cut but the care, cut until that point -- as well, a wide variety of sirens from the odyssey, post procedures from care examples, sound to color-correction were completed based on notes and the assumptions of his intimates. So the , master of ambiguity, making a film that's entirely about ambiguity, has left us with a real life puzzle: we'll never know what the final version of his final film might've been, and we're left to sift through the pieces.

When Eyes Wide Shut opened on July 16, 1999, it was mostly greeted with the same reaction that all of nursing care plan, Stanley Kubrick’s films had received: polar opinions followed by discussion. Scarlet Letter. Like those other films, once the controversy faded and it became available for dissection via video, its reputation slowly grew to the point where the nursing plan, initial reactions were rendered irrelevant. Part of the initial problem for many of the film’s viewers was that Kubrick had made so few films in the last two decades of his life. During this time, the world of minimum, film had been significantly augmented by three developments: home video, CGI and the rise of the blockbuster above all else. For myself, and nursing plan, an entire generation, we grew up watching Kubrick’s films on a TV screen. Although I did see Full Metal Jacket during its original run in theaters at the age of 12, what we were experiencing, for the most part, were waves created some time ago during the initial impacts of his work. There was so much folklore surrounding Kubrick's reputation that when Eyes Wide Shut’s production was announced in 1996, we were thrilled, yet skeptical. One friend, upon what is otaku learning it would be starring Tom Cruise, commented that it was the equivalent of Alfred Hitchcock returning from the grave to direct a Nike commercial. As the shooting schedule wore on, stretching to a comical 20 months, our anticipation increased. Then, on nursing care, the evening of March 7, 1999, shortly before the film’s release, we were shocked to learn Kubrick had passed away. We were in a state of what is otaku, disbelief.

For the younger filmmakers and care plan examples, enthusiasts coming of age now, it’s probably difficult to completely understand our reaction. Those who “got” Kubrick’s work -- the methodical compositions, groundbreaking narrative forms, revolutionary techniques, uncompromising intellectual concepts and, above all, his complete control over his productions and hernando cortes, releases -- it was like losing a symbol. You would only need to locate and read a few of the obituaries published at the time to get an idea. There was nobody else like him, and there never would be again. He was often misunderstood, even by his admirers. I was baffled at reading post-mortem critical evaluations of his work, most of which seemed void of any comprehension.

One analysis actually proclaimed the hernando voyages, most brilliant aspect of Barry Lyndon was that Kubrick presented the title character as a “dullard.” 1999 was a tricky year -- on the eve of the millennium, it was the peak of the ‘90s media avalanche, and care, it also was the year of the “dot.com.” The media, which SK had all but avoided for nearly a quarter century, quickly began spinning stories based on mistruths perpetuated by people who’d never even met him -- and cortes, he certainly wasn't available to counter any of these claims. Eyes Wide Shut’s entire production was controversial. The lack of nursing care, public knowledge, mixed with the length of the shoot, stirred a great deal of people commit, public interest -- not the least of which was centered around the film’s married couple of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Plan Examples. All we knew was that the narrative centered itself around sexual obsession. Later, it was suggested to be based on letter, Arthur Schnitzler’s Traumnovel , however, no copies were in print because Kubrick had preemptively bought them all years earlier. As with any unsubstantiated rumor, given enough time it will take on care examples, a life of its own and lose any semblance of realistic proportion.

The press made the film sound as if it would be like Basic Instinct . Everything was hyped beyond belief, as our piranha media configuration called for; AOL kept asking on its homepage whether it would be the sexiest movie ever, and, as rumors emerged that the married couple would actually have unsimulated sex onscreen, the site even advertised: “Tom Nicole: Will they or won’t they?” For those who were actually interested in the reality of what is otaku, Eyes Wide Shut , there was a legitimate controversy. It was well known that Kubrick had been a perfectionist, with complete autonomy over all of nursing care plan examples, his work. Why Do Commit Crime. In fact, he’d even recut 2001: A Space Odyssey , A Clockwork Orange and care examples, The Shining after their premieres -- and even had ACO removed from , exhibition and video entirely in the UK. Now that he was dead some four months before its release, had he in fact completed his final cut? History indicated that he most likely hadn’t. Then, as the nursing care, reviews began trickling out, notwithstanding Alexander Walker’s self-aggrandizing jump of the gun, yet another issue came to barnes noble uk, light. Nursing Plan. Apparently, in commit order to secure an R-rating, which Kubrick was contractually obligated to deliver to Warner Bros., digital alterations were applied to alter a specific scene on all US prints.

Critics were shown both versions. Care. Kubrick's untimely death mixed with questions about the legitimacy of the , final cut and care plan examples, the tabloid frenzy surrounding the stars created a perfect storm. I saw Eyes Wide Shut a couple of days before its release at a preview screening. The audience was anxious and on edge, not knowing what to expect. The film began, and after a few moments we all realized the picture quality was grainy, looking like a rough cut or an aged print. There was whispering. The story unfolded, and my initial reactions swayed from nervous numbness to curiosity to the odyssey, thinking it was the worst thing he’d ever done and an embarrassment to thinking it might be his best. Afterward, I left without much of an opinion. I needed to nursing care examples, mull it over.

I thought, perhaps Kubrick wasn’t dead after all. Maybe it had all been a plan -- a masquerade, not unlike what Tom Cruise’s character Bill Harford experienced. It certainly was ironic that someone known for what is otaku portraying stories in which plans go astray unexpectedly died of natural causes while meticulously finishing his first film in a dozen years. His body simply stopped on him. It couldn’t have been more Kubrickian. Most people were unable to determine how they felt about it after only nursing care examples, one viewing. I saw it again several times in a row upon its release, attempting to make sense of it all. Certain aspects had caught my attention, and voyages, it was readily apparent that many things which seemed so on the surface all but evaporated upon closer inspection. These ambiguities went unobserved by the press due to the crowded summer schedule, looming deadlines and a rush to judgment.

Perhaps the nursing care plan examples, greatest reason for this critical folly was that Kubrick spoke in why do people crime a language of cinema not literature. By this, I mean, most people were so unskilled at understanding film language that they were unable to follow his intricacies and, therefore, judged it a mess. Kubrick’s consistent intent was to create visual experiences that avoided literary pigeonholes --and he often did this with as little verbal exposition as possible (showing not telling). What often goes unsaid is that many critics enjoy intelligent films -- but usually dislike intellectual films. They like to watch well-made and thought-provoking work, yet they disdain anything which will require them to think and rethink what they’ve seen after the fact. Woe is the director who shows he's more intelligent than a critic. In an attempt to sound knowledgeable, many critics claimed to have read the plan, Schnitzler (which was out of print), when all they’d read was Frederic Raphael’s brief synopsis in his published memoir Eyes Wide Open , about his screenplay collaboration with Kubrick. Therefore, they were following an unreliable surface guide and were unable to barnes noble uk, distinguish between the differences. And so began the debate. Allegations flew from critics regarding the MPAA’s conservative attitudes toward sex.

After all, the world outside North America saw the version without the digital alterations; these alterations, which occurred in care examples a single scene, in the form of what became known as digital fig leaves, were figures imposed over certain sex acts to obscure their sight -- not unlike TV’s practice of what is otaku, blurring various unsuitable or unlicensed elements in passing. (The subsequent video release also had an alteration: the reflection of a sound man was removed in one scene -- something I believe to be intentional, not an error.) Because the alterations were apparently done just before its release, this led to speculation as to what else Warner’s might have done. Many refused to nursing care examples, accept this as a final cut. One critic actually had the audacity to accuse Steven Spielberg, without any evidence, mind you, of why do commit, reshooting the final scene. Jan Harlan, Kubrick’s brother-in-law and executive producer, subsequently made it clear that the cover-ups were Stanley’s unequivocal intention if it received an NC-17, as opposed to recutting it -- though, more recently, he contradicted himself by admitting Kubrick would've simply adjusted the cross-cutting between Dr. Bill and his P.O.V.

I firmly believe that most of the confusion was the result of the writers’ inability to fully understand Eyes Wide Shut -- and their refusal to admit so. There was such a critical controversy surrounding the movie that many critics ultimately reversed themselves. I recall Armond White first dismissed EWS as reverie, then he later criticized other critics for completely missing the film, then he ultimately decided it was very good but not great. Janet Maslin of The New York Times left her position shortly after its release, and it has been suggested (without confirmation) that the media’s close-minded reaction was the final straw for her. Eyes Wide Shut was accused of being as far behind the times as 2001 had been ahead. That’s already been proven incorrect, as its ideas have been absorbed, most recently by Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums , which also featured a stylized version of New York -- however, where Kubrick was charged with inaccuracies, Anderson was praised for originality. Eventually, Eyes Wide Shut vanished from the scene and 1999 seemed to care plan examples, be a year that declared the what is otaku, arrival of younger talents. I couldn’t read any newspaper or watch TV without being inundated by the ZEITGEIST. For some, Being John Malkovich summed up the moment.

Others thought it was Magnolia . And Fight Club was even hailed as the future of filmmaking by Film Comment. It wasn’t that Kubrick’s style was so out of touch with modern expectations. He never made films that worked like anybody else’s in any decade. His films existed outside of time. Designed to stand out. Designed to last. Yet subject to the tools and examples, knowledge of their times.

Twenty years ago, Eyes Wide Shut would have received a platform release -- a practice that was still the norm, though it was quickly being superseded by wide first weekends. Now, only what is otaku, movies outside the mainstream that need to build interest, such as art films, are released in stages. Most films are front packed, and if they don't perform on opening weekend, everybody knows as soon as Monday rolls around (even sooner now with Friday-Sunday estimates). Realistically, had Eyes Wide Shut received a platform release in 1999 it would have vanished immediately. It dealt with issues of infidelity that made most couples squirm, and the aesthetics were organic -- a far cry from the quickening Avid-edited pace of nursing examples, most films. Not even the star power of Tom Cruise, who at what is otaku, the time had the greatest box office track record ever, with five consecutive $100-million grossing films, could have saved it. In fact, by front packing it, Cruise led the film to gross 50-percent of its total $56-million U.S. box office take in its first weekend. Worldwide it capped at roughly $160-million -- not bad, but unspectacular compared to average blockbusters. The film was designed to catch its audience off guard. It was full of tricks. So much so, that it made the reversals in The Sixth Sense and Fight Club look elementary by comparison.

Eyes Wide Shut was a film that anybody would have had to see more than once if they intended to come to terms with it. It was not easily digested. Barnes Noble Uk. It was not mindless entertainment or a fun date movie. (It’s amusing to think what might have happened to a guy taking out a girl to see this with the intention of nursing plan examples, getting laid afterward.) Eyes Wide Shut is a series of reversals and dashed expectations where everybody has a motive and , all actions are performances. Nursing. The title itself is a contradiction; some suggested it was a reference to letter, the “dream logic” the narrative followed -- it’s intentionally ambiguous and many correlations can be found between it and aspects of the film. I believe the plan, title is suggesting people have an inherent inability to actually observe and comprehend what is before them. That people create dream worlds for themselves, and all too often accept surface presentations instead of barnes noble uk, searching the depths which create such illusions. Nursing. It's also a play about perspective and the limits to what can fully be known and the limits to hernando voyages, truth. Needless to say, most audience members who had mentally salivated at the prospect of wall to wall sex with Tom and plan, Nicole were disappointed. Barnes Noble Uk. And that was the point. Nursing Plan. Michael Herr, Kubrick’s friend and collaborator, noted that Kubrick must have been severely out of touch if he thought he could get away with that type of marketing campaign in 1999's culture.

Ticket prices were high, and people just wanted to escape life for what is otaku a couple of hours, maybe get a little aroused. Instead, they received a meditation on lies, marital infidelity, class, procreation and death. The narrative of Eyes Wide Shut is assembled similarly to most of Kubrick’s post- 2001 films, in that it’s a series of episodes placed together without any overt exposition to bridge them. Nursing Plan. This format had many accusing it of wage, being plotless. It isn’t plotless -- the plan examples, problem is that 99% of all movies follow the same structure, so people have been conditioned from Day One as to how a movie’s plot is supposed to play out. When viewers don’t receive what they expect at any given moment, they become dislocated from the pearl scarlet letter, material, because they’re no longer on a treadmill and have to think for themselves -- not unlike humanity's predicament in Kurt Vonnegut’s Timequake . To complicate things, Kubrick preferred keeping his compositions wide to show people within environments, rarely focusing on a single detail. This created a web of ambiguity for viewers unaccustomed to this, since it’s less obvious what the important pieces are.

It also diminishes the care examples, emotional states of the characters. One example of ambiguous composition in Eyes Wide Shut is the use of establishing shots, usually of certain areas in New York. Instead of focusing on the street signs, which might have been more helpful to wage, anyone unfamiliar with the environments, the shots are left in detached masters. They don’t always match the following action with Dr. Bill -- a tactic used to mock television’s use of establishing shots for shows shot on sound stages miles away from the actual locations. It’s logical to infer that Kubrick’s style came about through his roots as a still photographer, focusing on plan, exterior observation. By focusing on character actions rather than attempting to justify motivations or emotions, he was accused by some of not being a psychological director. This is incorrect; he just factored more into his observations than the illogical nature of barnes noble uk, mere human behavior -- such as temporal and spatial time, natural sciences and laws of physics. He preferred sociology to psychology. His characters didn’t exist in their own worlds where everything was justified to their emotional needs; they existed within a physical universe and had to maneuver through an existence often at odds with their motivations.

And to make matters worse, he often chose the point of view, some would say, of that physical world, reserving any compassion or sympathy for nursing care plan his characters’ plights. In comparision, The Sixth Sense , released the same summer, differs from Eyes Wide Shut in its emotional manipulation of physical reality in a fundamental way. In The Sixth Sense (as with Fight Club ), the main character could only have existed within the scenes dramatized, otherwise the illusion would’ve been shattered -- whereas in EWS , the pearl scarlet letter, locations and situations existed with or without Dr. Bill. Kubrick’s use of exposition and nursing plan examples, mise en scene differed greatly from more modern directors like Martin Scorsese. Whereas Kubrick routinely let multiple pieces of information permeate his compositions, creating a tapestry like Where’s Waldo? , Scorsese has the tendency to focus on only one thing at a time. Barnes Noble Uk. With Scorsese, the viewer is never at a loss as to care plan, what’s going on; he’s constantly freezing his narratives and fracturing time just to why do commit, explain the details, as if he’s showing off how much he knows.

Kubrick, on nursing examples, the other hand, dramatized scenes as they might actually take place, allowing the people commit crime, characters’ actions to plan, justify the pacing, letting them speak for themselves. Eyes Wide Shut’s main character, Bill Harford, is constantly entering into situations that existed before him, and will continue once he’s gone. Cortes Voyages. Bill is traveling through a series of future light cones, touring through the ripples of previous events, and the viewer, put in his place, enters into these situations as blindly as he does. We’re given no more exposition than the main character. Therefore, what Kubrick established was a method fundamentally at odds with Hitchcock’s subjectivity. Hitchcock built suspense by granting the audience more information than his characters through the use of cutaways, or, in nursing care plan examples the case of why do crime, Rear Window , panning away from a sleeping James Stewart to show the plan, murderous events going on across the barnes noble uk, courtyard. Kubrick, who felt 20th Century art had become too subjective and nursing examples, was in dire need of locating a sense of objectivity, would have none of that winking. The first three shots give us our conceptual setup. The film opens with Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite, Waltz 2 , playing over white on plan, black titles.

It then cuts to an image of Alice Harford, Bill’s wife, nude with her back to us. Alice slips out of her dress, letting it brazenly drop to the floor. The room is brightly lit and mundane with some tennis racquets to the side. She’s framed by Roman columns (Italian influences abound throughout the film), juxtaposing classicism with modernism, as Kubrick was often fond of nursing, doing. This image is intended to deceive, and letter, it actually calls attention to where our minds are. Nursing Care. People seeing Eyes Wide Shut in the theater for the first time had been promised a fair degree of arousal. Barnes Noble Uk. The opening shot, featuring a beautiful woman without any clothes on, altered none of nursing care plan, these expectations. (It’s integral to hernando cortes voyages, note that one’s reaction to what follows would be fundamentally different seeing it on video than in a theater. The actual film it was shot on, Eastman 500 EXR, had been underexposed by 2 stops, then pushed another 2 during development, creating a haze of nursing care examples, grain that lent it a documentary feel. What Is Otaku. The effect was rather like Suerat’s pointillism meeting the warm interior lights of Latrec.

Its intimacy was almost embarrassing. The DVD was cleaned up, slickening the nursing plan examples, presentation, thereby making it more palatable to audiences. ) After the image of Alice, a title card appears cleverly announcing the film’s title, followed by the second shot: a wobbly establishing shot of an wage in usa, apartment building on Manhattan’s Central Park West. What we didn’t notice in the theatrical release, during the first shot, was the picture’s grain -- we were too fixated on the naked woman. Upon moving to the exterior shot, however, the audience was thrown a curve. Nursing Examples. Not only was there a content contrast between the two shots, but the picture was literally filled with contrast.

It looked cheap and amateurish. Another thing we were distracted from, due to the image of nudity, was the attitude by which Alice undressed. Anyone paying attention would have noticed just how bored with contempt she was. She wasn’t even wearing anything below the dress. It can be inferred, when placed within the context of the following scenes, that Alice was unenthusiastically deciding what to wear for voyages the party she and Bill were to subsequently attend. For shot #3, upon cutting from the CPW establishing, we find Bill in a tuxedo, standing where Alice was only nursing care plan, a moment before. There are major aesthetic differences to be noted: the pearl, exterior was lit with street lights, which lent an amber hue to the winter night, however, inside the light coming through the care, window is artificial blue. (The color blue will become an integral part of the the odyssey, film’s mechanics as it progresses.) In one Stedicam shot, with Shostakovich still playing on nursing, the soundtrack, Bill wanders through the apartment searching for something. He calls to Alice who’s off-screen, asking if she knows where his wallet is. She suggests it's by the bed, an obvious location, and upon locating it, a look of resentment crosses Bill’s face.

He immediately attempts to deflect his incompetence by accusing Alice of taking her time. (His wallet, as it contains cash and his ID, will become another key motif, consistently offering others his identity and a means of exchange.) Bill enters the bathroom, and we discover Alice on the toilet -- killing our first image of crime, her. Nursing Care Examples. Bill is oblivious and looks at himself in barnes noble uk the mirror. Alice wipes herself, then asks Bill how she looks. He automatically replies without looking, telling her she looks beautiful, which she mocks him for.

He patronizingly tells her she always looks beautiful, then he kisses her on the neck. Plan. Bill walks back into the bedroom and sirens, turns off the stereo -- which it turns out was playing the Shostakovich, tricking the audience who assumed it was non-diegetic. ( Jazz Suite, Waltz 2 will appear again during the film as a theme for the routine of their lives. By using music by both Shostakovich and Ligeti as its main themes, an interesting layer has been added: both were composers whose work was done under the rule of Stalinist Soviet Union; both composers’ work was therefore restricted accordingly. Care Plan. These pieces of music help set the tone for the decadent, post-Cold War America portrayed in the film.) One other piece of information granted us during this setup is a window air conditioner seen repeatedly as Bill passes it.

It’s an extremely subtle element of the what is otaku, mise en scene, but rather humorous when considering the setting is Christmas time, and the AC should have been removed a while ago. Later on, however, in subsequent scenes, the AC is missing from the window; this is the only time we’ll see it. The AC can be seen as symbolic of Bill and Alice’s frigid relationship, but it also plays into the film’s highly complex use of mise en scene: as it’s never seen again, we can be left to ponder whether it was a continuity error or whether it was removed outside of the drama -- though if it was, Alice most likely did the work, because we later see Bill as a lazy oaf after work the following evening. Nursing Care. The point is: we don’t know. What we have learned drama-wise via these first three shots is that Bill and commit crime, Alice have been married for a while, and they’re wealthy, living on nursing, Central Park West. Bill is absentminded, a bit of a boob with things, and hernando, he's extremely self-centered. Plan. Also, we should prepare ourselves for a certain amount of nudity.

And this narrative is going to , consistently play mind fucks with us. We've also been exposed to the film's aesthetic strategies -- the nursing plan examples, blue exterior lights (against red curtains), black against white (tuxedo), the from, thick picture grain, the pairing of diegetic and non-diegetic, and the use of long unedited takes, often shot with a Stedicam. All this, in nursing plan examples just 3 shots. Bill and voyages, Alice have been married for nine years at nursing care plan examples, this point. What Is Otaku. Their daily routine has become mechanized. It’s been suggested that Kubrick’s central theme throughout his career was the contrast between things which are mechanical and nursing, those which are spontaneous, contingent or unforeseen. More can be made of this. Barnes Noble Uk. I would like to suggest that the nursing, underlying concept behind these themes is the , danger of blind faith.

Blind faith, by its very nature, requires a submission of autonomy. Therefore, it lends itself to mechanization because it eliminates the opportunity for someone to actually think and nursing care plan examples, act independently. . (The Ludovico Treatment, the nursing care plan, Doomsday Machine, HAL 9000 or even Redmond Barry’s devotion to his mother and her advice.) Of course, there are pros and cons to both consistency and spontaneity. Some said Kubrick mocked plans, but that would be an barnes noble uk, incorrect conclusion based upon his widely reported meticulousness. (During the planning for his fabled film about Napoleon, for helicopter shots, SK reportedly calculated the size of the battlefields in relation to the number of plan examples, soldiers, as well as determining the speed at which a helicopter would have to fly to pass over all the troops, so he could determine how long the pearl, shot would last. Without computers.) Whereas too much planning stagnates and care examples, creates an minimum wage in usa, appearance of lifelessness (which Kubrick’s work was certainly accused of), too much spontaneity can lead to an inability to accomplish a desired end. Kubrick believed that most people were incapable of determining the methods by which they intended to accomplish their goals. He was able to acquire freedom from time constraints with his work; the nursing care examples, success of his films allowed him to hernando cortes voyages, take whatever time he felt was needed to create work which he felt most proud of. That way, any malfunctions could be detected within time to examples, be corrected. In the end, of course, his time ran out -- his greatest victory, control of , time, ultimately begat his downfall. As Eyes Wide Shut unspools, Kubrick begins filling our minds with strange inconsistencies, of which the nursing care plan, previously mentioned AC is only one.

An obviously missing statue in why do crime one scene is nursing care plan examples, another example; a chair that comes and goes near Bill’s front door which he likes to minimum wage in usa, place his coat on is another. He’s begging us to wonder whether these things are intentional or not. Bill’s experience is a figurative dream, not the actual narrative of the movie. When Alice compares dreams and reality at the end, just before the return of Jazz Suite, Waltz 2 , she’s comparing her dreams to his reality -- and Bill, as a doctor, with little in the way of an imagination, is the butt of the joke. Some critics strangely declared this was Kubrick’s Ophul movie, but a more accurate reference would be that of Bunuel. Eyes Wide Shut is a surrealist film with a narrative that never resolves its questions.

Furthermore, it was Bunuel who routinely satirized the bourgeois and nursing plan, their dreamlike removal from what is otaku, reality in such films as Belle de jour and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeois . Bunuel also chose a mundane aesthetic sensibility to heighten the absurdity of the nursing plan, drama -- the outrageous presented realistically. Another reference point is Franz Kafka, whom Kubrick believed to be the greatest writer of the 20th Century. Kubrick argued that most film adaptations of his work were misconceived because the wage, filmmakers confused the care plan examples, narrative surrealism for stylistic absurdity, when, in fact, Kafka wrote in a very plain manner. People Commit Crime. Kafka's aesthetic was to portray insanity as perfectly sane. Surrealism manifests itself in EWS as Bill is so out of the loop during the day of his odyssey that the plan examples, unfamiliar events which he stumbles through appear to function with a dream logic. The events are too irregular, and , his lack of experience leads him to paranoia, linking incidents together without any foundation -- and as Bill is the nursing, stand-in for the audience, the barnes noble uk, same confusion takes hold in us as well, just as we're also pouring over the continuity inconsistencies. Anyone who’s ever been in a similar predicament knows the movie portrays this scenario with scary accuracy. Care Plan. It’s also extremely acute in the odyssey its rendering of the different worlds Bill steps into throughout the city -- worlds cut off by economic and cultural diversity. In the movie, like life, nothing ever seems to fit together perfectly. Care. No disguise is absolute, hence the need for a disguise in commit the first place.

Such is Kubrick’s central theory on relationships and care plan, perceived reality in general: trust is the glue which holds all the loose ends together, yet nothing should be blindly trusted. and the whole truth can never be known. SHADOWS ON THE MIRROR: The unspoken secret to understanding the relationship between Bill and Alice can be viewed during the mirror make out scene, accompanied by Chris Isaak’s Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing (which we can assume is playing on nursing care examples, their stereo). We see Alice standing in front of a mirror with her back to us. Cortes. Her front side is represented by a mirror’s reflection.

Throughout the film we’re shown characters from behind, then from the front, suggesting a simple formal reversal of perception. Mirrors will also be seen repeatedly in the film as a hint of duplicity. The reflection here offers our first glimpse of Alice’s bare front, and as the what is otaku, camera zooms in, Bill approaches from behind. He looks at her, then himself in the reflection -- comparing image to nursing care plan, reality -- then he begins passionately kissing Alice. We cut closer on their reflected image. Then.

Alice’s eyes open, and a look of disappointment crosses her face. Without resolution there is a fade to black. Obviously, there’s a problem. The first thing to understand is that they’ve been married for 9 years. We’ve already seen that they’re comfortable enough with each other to share the bathroom. We know that at the earlier party Bill revived a naked woman who had OD’d -- a scene portrayed without a hint of what is otaku, eroticism. He also indifferently (or trustingly) left his wife to care, fend for minimum in usa herself at a party at which she didn’t know anybody, and nursing care plan, didn’t want to be at.

What could cause a doctor, someone who is around nudity without sexuality on a daily basis, to become so passionate? The act of cortes, having saved someone’s life. Bill is a 40-ish doctor with an overblown sense of ego, and the ability to save someone’s life fuels his God complex. However, he’s a man so self-involved that he’s clueless to anything outside his general grasp. He has everything he wants: a beautiful wife and daughter, a general practice on care, Park Avenue and a $2-million apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, which contrary to wage in usa, some critical remarks, could easily be paid for with a mortgage. There are several things worth noting about this scene. Nursing. The first, is that it’s incomplete. We don’t know the outcome.

Kubrick faded to black just as things seemed to be getting interesting. This was an often repeated tactic in what is otaku his vocabulary: untimely optical transitions. (Think: the fade to black in nursing care 2001 just as Floyd’s recorded message is nearing an end, or the dissolve from Mr. Touchdown giving directions in Full Metal Jacket to the actual scene of the crime -- or even the hernando, fade out at the end of Part 1 in Barry Lyndon , while the nursing care examples, Narrator is what is otaku, still reading Sir Charles’ obituary.) It’s a rude gesture on care examples, Kubrick’s part, as most filmmakers want to be as smooth with their audience as possible. The integral piece of information has usually been established, yet instead of commit crime, resolving the matter at hand, this technique leaves the ending loose, usually to have it played out in the following actions, implying that nothing can be done to alter this fate. (One more note regarding the nursing care plan examples, fade to why do crime, black. Nursing Care Examples. In theaters, there was a reel change just after the wage in usa, fade, and the transition to the elevator doors opening was extremely abrupt. According to Leon Vitali, Kubrick stipulated that his films be screened reel-to-reel instead of on a platter to plan, avoid prolonged scratches.) The question must be begged: did they or didn’t they? Everything we’ve seen about Bill prior to this -- from his indifference with Alice on the toilet and an unflinching professional demeanor when confronted with the nude woman, to his hesitation as Gayle and what is otaku, Nuala proposed to take him, “. Where the rainbow ends. ” -- suggests he’s not exactly the hot-blooded type. The audience, however, used to Tom Cruise’s hero screen persona, has not made the switch.

There’s even a line he speaks during the models' encounter that pointedly mocks Cruise’s image: “Well, that is the type of hero I can be sometimes.” The subsequent events of the story prove otherwise. Marriage, as portrayed in Eyes Wide Shut , is nursing care examples, not merely a psychological game of emotional manipulation or deceit, but it primarily serves as an evolutionary function for voyages the species. It’s a matter of survival; it provides structure for society, financial security for individuals, maintains population control to an extent, and it subdues to the varying effects that marriages succeed, the spread of nursing care, disease. The problem is not in the intellectual concept or morality of one man and one woman, but in the reality of actually applying it to hernando voyages, real people. It’s often a case of trying to fit a circle (humans: living things capable of choice and emotional response), into a square (marriage: a rigid structure). This single scene, bouncing reality off of the mirror to show disconnect, illustrates the crutch of their predicament: since Bill is a doctor who practices the hippocratic oath, by definition, he can never be entirely honest with his wife. The event that sparked his libido was saving a life -- and care examples, what happened between he and Ziegler was in strict confidence. Minimum Wage In Usa. (It's also this secret event that ultimately saves Bill, since Ziegler owes him.) KUBRICK HATED THE WIZARD OF OZ: Bill’s view of his life is, for nursing care plan examples all intents and purposes, black white. This is visually played out in several ways: when Bill and Alice initially arrive at Ziegler's party the floor beneath their feet is checkered black white; during Bill and Alice’s argument, he’s wearing black shorts and she white lingerie, and he even dubiously states, “Well, I don’t think it’s quite that black white. ” Also, at the party, Bill is paired against Nick Nightingale, and he’s wearing a black jacket while Nick is what is otaku, wearing a white jacket; the nursing care, newspaper in which Bill reads about Amanda Curran's overdose is black ink printed on white paper; and, most tellingly, we see Bill’s jealous fantasies of Alice with the hernando cortes voyages, Sailor played out in his mind in nursing examples black white.

The black white motif is used to directly counter the “rainbow” of colors awash throughout most of the sirens the odyssey, film. Care Examples. (Remember, The Wizard of Oz pairs BW reality in Kansas against lush color in Oz.) There appears to be a logic to the use of wage, colors which goes as follows: blue represents an artificial or mechanical surface; red represents an internal entry, Eros, or the life instinct; orange represents normalcy and familial warmth; and yellow represents unreliability and a lack of control. Red and blue are seen most frequently, often paired within the same shot to nursing plan examples, contrast each other. Kubrick paired these two once before during the opening titles of A Clockwork Orange , and a clockwork orange is, of course, somebody who appears to be living yet is really mechanical. Our first introduction to blue is during the tracking shot of Bill at the beginning: there’s a cold blue light seeping through the letter, windows. As the film progresses, blue begins coming through more and nursing plan, more windows, brighter and brighter, illuminating what we can obviously tell is pearl, a false exterior set, literally illustrating the false exterior. Care Examples. As that first shot ends, the lights in the room have been turned off, leaving only two sources of light: the sirens from the odyssey, harsh, artificial blue coming through the window and the warm orange lamp light from the care, hallway.

Bill closes the bedroom door behind him, blocking out the warm light of normalcy, leaving only the cold artificiality of the blue. Barnes Noble Uk. Kubrick primarily weaves blue, along with the other colors, into the fabric of the mise en scene. Blue is used as a tile on the wall when Bill negotiates entry into Rainbow Costumes, as a stage light at the Sonata Cafe, as the door to nursing care plan, Domino’s apartment, and so on. Red, constantly opposing blue, is seen most prominently during the orgy, where the carpet is bright crimson and , the party’s chief is appropriately called Red Cloak. This is where the plan, id has been unleashed, and Bill believes somebody might have given their life to barnes noble uk, save his. It can also be found as a traffic light outside the window of Rainbow Costumes contrasting the blue tiles, on the neon lights that decorate the Sonata Cafe, as well as its dark interior upon Bill’s entrance. There’s even a red neon sign that says EROS in one scene. Orange is the nursing care plan examples, color emitted from what is otaku, all of the normal functioning lights in plan the film’s settings, as it would be.

In this way, orange is natural and de facto in its representation of normalcy. Yellow, the final major recurring color, is prominent because of the taxis taken by Bill that are everywhere throughout the sirens the odyssey, city. Just about every cab which Bill comes in contact with screws him in some way. This is the result of his abandoning control to let somebody else manage his means of travel. With the exception of the obviously artificial blue exteriors, the color scheme is blended into the film by motivated objects. The most obvious of these objects are the recurring Christmas lights (Christmas trees are everywhere as a symbol of fantasies and self-delusions, namely by celebrating the birth of a man who purports to offer eternal life). The use of the Christmas lights brings up an aspect of Kubrick’s filmmaking which, with the exception of Barry Lyndon’s candlelight sequences, has gone criminally unsung: source lighting. . While examples can be viewed in nursing care his work as far back as Killer’s Kiss , most of commit crime, Kubrick’s interiors from 2001 on were lit by actual sources, instead of sculpting the light with multiple hidden sources and cut with flags the way most films do. Nursing Care Plan Examples. This approach was logical (Where exactly does rim light come from, anyway?), and created a beautiful naturalism to wage, his work.

It also affected the light timing, in that because we were actually experiencing incident light from definable sources with the light correctly fading to nursing care, darkness the farther the rays fell away from the bulb, a truer, more inhabitable space was created around the sirens, characters. This touches on another issue that separated Kubrick from nursing plan, other directors. While many ambitious directors strive to experiment with the latest technologies, Kubrick personally oversaw the scarlet letter, creation of new technologies for his films. Care Plan. It was Kubrick who acquired the NASA Zeiss lenses and figured out the means by which they could be attached to the Mitchell BNC cameras for the afore-mentioned Barry Lyndon (with the help of Ed Di Giulio). Also, if you watch the credits for 2001 , he is listed as the minimum wage, director of the film’s special photographic effects, which won him his only Oscar. (It was all done in-camera; there was no such thing as digital back then.) He was editing on video, and then computers, using a system called Montage, in the mid-'80s on FMJ , long before Avid became the standard, and he even created a Video Village of 2-dozen VCRs and monitors to to record and compare takes on set. And for everybody who loves Scorsese’s or Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic Stedicam shots, check out The Shining , done a full decade before Goodfellas . All said, however, he never used technology as an end in itself.

Technology was a means to an end. Even EWS , which has an almost retro feel to it, was shot at times using a robotic camera remote-controled by Kubrick in a separate room from the actors. It is not without good reason that everyone from Arthur C. Clark to the myriad of rocket scientists who advised 2001 , hailed him as probably the care plan, single most intelligent human being they’d ever personally known. Eyes Wide Shut is difficultly filled with obscurities. Hernando. God is in care examples the details. One sequence, in particular, displays Kubrick’s deft use of mise en scene to wage in usa, illuminate or mask information: When Bill first meets Domino, he has just come from the Nathanson apartment. Bristling in the cold night, he reaches a street corner and care plan examples, waits for barnes noble uk the light to change. Domino approaches, dressed in care examples a black white faux fur coat and a short, tight purple dress (purple being the combination of red and blue).

In the what is otaku, background we can see the red and blue neon sign for an XXX video store, subliminally planting sex in our minds. She asks him for the time, which he gives her. As the nursing care plan, light changes, we switch to hernando, a reverse angle (front and back), leaving the background of the nursing care examples, video store for that of a hardware store, grounding us in the mundane world. Bill starts across the nursing examples, street, and Domino starts coming onto him. Bill’s initial impression of her, as is what is otaku, most people’s, is nursing care plan examples, that she’s a prostitute -- however, we’re getting details which subvert this initial reaction. For example, the aggressiveness in which she propositions him seems quite unprofessional. Most hookers wait to be approached, or they might say something like, “Hey, baby, want a date?” But they certainly wouldn’t play so hard as follow somebody and walk in front of minimum, them, not letting them out of their grasp. Also, just as Domino is asking Bill if he’d like to have some fun, they pass a bright neon sign that reads HOTEL -- Domino then informs Bill that she lives nearby.

Now, I’m not exactly an expert on examples, prostitution, but it seems unlikely to me that a woman would come on this strong and invite a john back to her apartment. Pearl. Prostitution is a business. It’s not personal. It’s selling an image, not a reality. Nursing Care Plan Examples. It’s Bill’s lack of experience that leads him to assume her identity. Voyages. It’s the average man’s impression, too, revealing how men really do think about women. Nursing Care Plan. But she's got an agenda. Upon reaching her building, which features red doors, Bill incredulously asks her, “You live in there?” He finally agrees to go inside with her, and we cut to the interior lobby of the building, as they enter. In Usa. This is typical in that the camera never follows Bill through any doorways; he’s followed directly up to doorways, then picked up from the reverse side, as he enters into examples a different world.

In the corner of the lobby next to Domino’s door is an abandoned blue baby carriage, mockingly juxtaposing sex as reproduction with sex for money (just as Mandy's naked OD was paired with a painting of wage in usa, a pregnant woman on Ziegler's bathroom wall). The following sequence involves six interior shots and several cutaways to Alice at home. The placement of the care, camera is central to Domino’s true identity. Minimum Wage. We start with the camera’s back to the apartment, focused on nursing, the front door. The door opens and Domino enters, followed by Bill. The camera tracks backward with them, as they walk into the apartment. Bill comments that her small Christmas tree is “nice,” for lack of pearl letter, anything better to say. Upon entering the kitchen, which we see is filthy with plates on nursing plan examples, the table and pearl scarlet, bras hanging above the bathtub, Domino puts a frying pan aside and care plan examples, comments, “Sorry, maid’s day off.” (This is a marked contrast from the Nathanson apartment where Rosa, the maid, let him in and took his coat.) Are we really supposed to buy that this sweet, attractive girl with a messy apartment is a hooker? Again, showing, not telling.

The next shot is a reverse-angle 2-shot of Bill and barnes noble uk, Domino. We can see more dishes and food on nursing care plan, the table, as well as the bathtub in the kitchen (contrasting Ziegler’s luxurious bathroom from the barnes noble uk, party). A room can be seen in the background, though its details are unassuming. Plan Examples. Bill asks Domino if she’d like to talk about money. She plays along with him, flattered, and is quite surprised when he says he’ll pay $150. She sweetly tells him that she won’t keep track of the time, a dead-on clue. Barnes Noble Uk. Domino’s expressions and facial reactions are highly important in this scene: she's acting.

We now cut away to Alice at home, staying up to wait for Bill so they can resolve their argument. Bathed in blue light, she’s eating Snackwells and watching Blume in Love , by Paul Mazursy, who starred in Kubrick’s first feature Fear and plan examples, Desire. Bill, however, in minimum the apartment of nursing, a beautiful and willing young woman, is oblivious. We return to Bill and find him in scarlet a tight 2-shot with Domino in examples her bedroom, as they kiss -- another give away (what hooker kisses on the lips?). This shot, number three inside the apartment, is taken facing the same direction as the previous shot in the apartment.

Then. Minimum Wage. Bill’s cell phone rings. With the ring of the phone, we move to a wider shot. This is now shot four of the apartment, and nursing care examples, it is hernando cortes, from the examples, same direction as the previous two shots. Barnes Noble Uk. We learn that Bill was seated on the bed with Domino kneeling above him -- as if he’s the patient to care plan, her doctor. What Is Otaku. The camera tracks with Bill as he steps away. Bill turns off the stereo and answers the call.

Two books can be seen on the shelf, one more obvious than the other. The book in plain view is humorously titled Introducing Sociology . (Is Domino a student?) The second book, lying down and nursing plan examples, difficult to make out, is Shadows on the Mirror , a novel by Frances Fyfield, about a successful woman attorney at a prestigious firm who keeps lonely men company at night. until she finds herself stalked -- a perfect parallel to the film’s plot, both thematically and narratively. Examples. This is people commit crime, what I’m talking about with regard to Kubrick’s use of detail. Nursing. You’d better believe that book is intentional. This is why his films took so long to shoot -- he was making sure that everything within every scene and within each frame played out exactly the way he wanted it to.

After a series of cross-cuts between Bill and Alice, as he lies to minimum wage, her about nursing, his whereabouts, we cut to shot #5, a medium close-up of , Domino reclining on her bed. “Was that. Mrs. Dr. Bill? This shot is from nursing plan examples, a different position, yet varies by only ninety degrees to the left.

Bill exhaustedly sits on her bed in shot #6, and we’ve finally gone to a reverse angle on our final shot. And what do we see? A room behind Bill and , Domino. And what room is it? The kitchen. We’ve now seen the entire layout of the apartment. There are only 3 rooms: a small living room which they initially entered, the kitchen and the bedroom. Care Plan Examples. Therefore, Domino’s “roommate” is sirens, probably a bit more than a roommate. This final shot of the sequence with Domino contains a subtle zoom, indicating that we’ve just received an nursing care plan, important piece of information. (The zoom appears in the film at several integral moments, in sirens the odyssey varying degrees of care plan examples, size and length.) Bill offers to pay Domino anyhow, though she refuses -- yet another clue. He insists and what is otaku, places the money in her hand.

Surprised and flattered , she thanks him. The trick is: even if she wasn't a prostitute and she was only acting, by accepting his money, now she's a prostitute. Everything in this film is specific -- camera directions and dramatic locations alike. We’re constantly being shown establishing shots that cue us to locations which give us a certain amount of information about the rules and wealth of any given area. Nursing Care Plan. It also helps drive home how people in New York, like Dr. Bill, live their lives in hernando cortes voyages a routine that takes them to the same locations within the city on a regular basis. Their lives become mechanical, and upon entering another district, as Dr. Bill does by wandering Greenwhich Village, he becomes lost in another world. Kubrick’s films were visually tight. So much so, that he was praised as much as he was criticized.

He never storyboarded, though. His feeling was that until he was on the set and care plan, staging the scene with the actors, there was no way to know where the camera should be. The camera’s function for him was to document, not dictate. And he wouldn't quit until he got exactly what he wanted -- whether it meant spending an entire week shooting the brief hotel exchange with Alan Cumming, or even recasting Jennifer Jason Leigh's role as Marion Nathanson with Marie Richardson, when she was unavailable for reshoots. The shoot didn't last 20 months for nursing plan nothing. GREATEST AMERICAN HERO: Bill is pearl, a boob. Nursing Care. He’s utterly clueless, and it’s hysterical to from the odyssey, watch America’s hero, Tom Cruise, wander through a series of situations that ultimately illustrate him a buffoon. For example, after Nick Nightingale tells him about the orgy, there's a cut to Bill’s cab arriving at Rainbow Costumes (he mistakenly calls it Rainbow Fashions).

Bill thanks the driver and plan, tells him to keep the change, then he rings the buzzer and asks for Peter Grenning, a patient of his. Wage In Usa. Mr. Milich comes to the door to plan examples, inform him that Grenning moved over a year ago. This scene features one of the funniest moments in the film. As Mr. Milich steps out of his apartment, we can see some lights reflected on the glass door of the building. Sirens From. These lights are the neon signs in plan front of Sonata Cafe and commit, Gillespie’s Diner. Upon cutting to a reverse we can see both buildings directly behind Bill.

He's apparently hired a cab to drive him to nursing plan, a destination that was right across the street from where he was. The cabby most likely drove around, then dropped his clueless passenger off. Now, here’s a curve ball. The next day when Bill returns to Sonata Cafe and finds it’s closed, he steps back and looks around the block; in the background, we can see the building with the storefront that’s supposed to be Rainbow Costumes -- however, it’s been stripped of barnes noble uk, any visible identification, save the marks of where the care examples, Rainbow sign was. What Is Otaku. What’s going on?

Is this intentional? Poor production values? No. Once again, it’s intentional. Like the AC. Like the missing statue. Nursing Plan. The reason Kubrick has Bill step aside to look around is to scarlet letter, deliver this information. Just when we thought we knew what was up, the playing field has been shifted.

Kubrick is refusing to examples, grant us the slightest bit of resolution. The filmmaking itself is weaving paranoia into our subconscious through subtleties like this. And it's these traits that render the film functionally surrealist. There are several other instances where people pointed out, albeit incorrectly, other continuity errors. For example, the , 2 times Bill arrives at Somerton, the location of the orgy, it’s from opposite directions. If you pay attention it’s because he takes two different routes. Nursing Plan Examples. A cab drives Bill the first time; the cab turns off the highway, and we see a series of shots of the hernando voyages, cab riding through a town and a dark rural road, before it arrives at the gated driveway. Bill has been too consumed by feelings of jealousy to nursing care plan, pay much attention. On the pearl, second occasion, Bill drives himself in the movie’s only scene involving his car. He sticks to plan examples, the main artery highway and arrives from a different direction. This is the only scene in which he drives himself and takes his transportation in his own hands.

Many people felt that Kubrick had lost his touch, that there was nothing adventurous about his filmmaking anymore. I assume these are the same people who champion what I term “Commodified Controversy,” something at , which Oliver Stone is a master. “Commodified Controversy” is exactly what it sounds like: using the media to create a controversy to help sell your film. In fact, I would argue there’s been so many attempts to shock that nothing shocks anymore; it’s manufactured hype. The corporations, in examples my opinion, are quite happy with this. By legitimizing rebellion, rebellion is no longer rebellious, and therefore, true rebellion is fringe. Stanley Kubrick was the original American independent film prodigy, another concept that’s been exploited to the point of being meaningless. He started on his own without a college diploma and hernando cortes voyages, shot two DIY features funded by relatives, Fear and Desire and Killer’s Kiss, before Hollywood took notice and care plan examples, gave him his break. By the , time Eyes Wide Shut was released, controversy had taken the form of plan examples, Fight Club or Natural Born Killers (nowadays it's Bruno ) -- both topical and against the grain, but unlikely to pearl scarlet, shift the playing field and unwilling to risk commercial losses through bans. Of course, the climate is different today than in Kubrick’s heyday. A director like Stone can afford to release NBK as an R-rated film in theaters, then promote an unrated “Director’s Cut,” for home video.

For those unfamiliar with Stanley Kubrick’s record, this is what real controversy looks like. His 1957 film Paths of Glory , which depicted the French Army’s execution of its own soldiers, was actually banned in plan France for 20 years. Dr. Strangelove , released in 1964, depicted an American General launching a nuclear strike against the Soviet Union -- it came out four months after JFK’s assassination, and less than two years after the hernando cortes voyages, Cuban Missile Crisis. It would be the equivalent of somebody today making a comedy about an American staging a terrorist attack, so we could clobber another country. Care Plan. In 1971, he released A Clockwork Orange , one of only two X-rated films to ever receive an Oscar nomination for what is otaku best picture. Care Plan. After a series of what is otaku, death threats made against him and nursing, his family, he chose to barnes noble uk, withdraw it from theaters in Great Britain, and it remained that way until after his death. I'd like to now discuss the nursing care plan examples, orgy scene.

Dramatically speaking, the orgy is the apex of the movie, conceptually speaking. You want balls? How many major filmmakers would put a twenty-minute sequence in the center of their film where nobody's face can be seen and minimum, makes no rational sense to the average viewer? Dr. Bill wanders into an environment that’s as alien to him as to the viewer. Nursing Care. He doesn’t belong there. He doesn’t know the rules -- and what is otaku, since he’s our guide, neither do we.

All we can do is try to put the care plan, pieces together and, like much of the film, it’s an exercise in barnes noble uk comprehension skills. What I can tell you is this: the party is a variation on Venetian masquerades, Bill’s mask is inappropriate, both Gayle and care, Nuala are likely in attendance, Ziegler is in why do people commit attendance, and Mandy is in attendance. Detractors commented that the nursing care plan examples, scene had poor sound quality. I’m not sure what they meant by that. Did they want the dialogue to be more stylized? It was lurid melodrama played out by naked people wearing masks. It was funny and nursing care examples, scary at the same time. The masks and costumes created a sense of fantasy, yet the plain, earnest voices coming from minimum wage in usa, under the masks was comical in its juxtaposition. Some people were so confused that they thought Alice had been at the ball.

For the record, she wasn’t. This completely balls-out bat-shit sequence was criticized by some for not being sexy, or because Dr. Bill doesn't get anything. They're missing the forest for the trees (fig leaves not included). What Kubrick has been building toward with this sequence is a manipulation of the viewer into wanting Bill to barnes noble uk, cheat on Alice. This is the nursing plan, same strategy he used time and again -- convincing the audience to root for the main character to do something bad (the B-52 reaching its target in Dr. Strangelove , Alex prevailing in why do commit crime ACO , Jack getting his wife in nursing care examples The Shining , etc.) It's a moral litmus test for the viewer. GOD IS IN THE DETAILS: While I’ve already pointed out that every detail in a Kubrick film was meticulously arranged, it goes deeper than most imagine. For example, when Dr.

Bill is , reading the article about Amanda Curran’s drug overdose, an actual article about the incident was written. If you freeze-frame your DVD you can read it. You’ll notice that the two final paragraphs read as follows: AFTER BEING HIRED FOR A SERIES OF MAGAZINE ADS FOR LONDON FASHION DESIGNER LEON VITALI, RUMORS BEGAN CIRCULATING OF AN AFFAIR BETWEEN THE TWO. Nursing Plan. SOON AFTER HER HIRING, VITALI EMPIRE INSIDERS WERE REPORTING THAT THEIR BOSS ADORED CURRAN -- NOT FOR HOW SHE WORE HIS STUNNING CLOTHES IN PUBLIC, BUT FOR HOW SHE REMOVED THEM IN PRIVATE, SEDUCTIVE PERFORMANCES. Anyone familiar with Kubrick’s films would recognize the name Leon Vitali. He was Kubrick’s personal assistant for wage in usa the last twenty-five years of his life. He played Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon , and examples, also Red Cloak in in usa Eyes Wide Shut . But also, if you look carefully at the whole article, it's filled with errors and repetitions, again playing into the question of error versus intent. I’d also like to point out a scene in which the nursing examples, mise en scene gives us a clue to a character’s motivation: Bill’s visit to the Nathanson apartment. This use is what is otaku, simple and logical.

While Bill and Marion are seated, talking about her recently deceased father, also in the room, an IV drip can be seen directly behind Bill. Bill, Lou Nathanson’s doctor, is represented as a symbol of life in Marion’s eyes, and the IV is an extension of this. Just before Marion deliriously kisses Bill and tells him she loves him, he leans forward and care plan, obscures the IV machine, effectively becoming one with this device. Bill, however, is barnes noble uk, not a machine, just a human. Care Plan Examples. And contrary to popular myth, doctors do not save lives and prevent deaths, they extend lives and scarlet, postpone deaths. With Eyes Wide Shut , Stanley Kubrick created a film so layered with latent meaning that it perfectly encapsulated a modern society so overloaded with conflicting and care plan, referenced culture that it’s lost its meaning. It is, therefore, a requiem for minimum in usa postmodernism (and not a moment too soon), a movement which his earlier work could quite easily be connected with.

This film dramatizes the ultimate effects that postmodernism has had on our culture, and care plan examples, its reception perfectly illustrated this. We’ve degenerated from a culture which embraced intellectual adventurism and what is otaku, new ideas, making not only critical, but commercial successes out of films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange , to one which criticizes films for being adult and dark, as Jeffery Lyons did to the Kubrick/Spielberg collaboration A.I.: Artificial Intelligence . We no longer make choices based on quality but aesthetics. Our current culture is disposable. And time will render it as such. Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic legacy will continue to grow.

His position as a 20th Century master is assured. His reputation as a maker of many great films is plan examples, evidenced in the 2002 Sight and Sound poll -- an international event conducted every ten years. The poll is divided into two sections, one by directors, the other by critics. While most directors were lucky to have one film on either list, and a few were lucky enough to have the same film on both lists, Kubrick had a different film on both lists. The critics chose 2001: A Space Odyssey , and the directors chose Dr. Strangelove . I don’t know what the future holds for the medium of film, other than it will no longer be film but digital soon enough. I see mixed messages. There are virtually no independent film companies at this point -- by that, I mean independently financed and released. While most films are independently produced, they’re being released by studios -- and that means the studios have final say over which films get distributed and what they’ll look like. There seems to be no connection between real life and what is otaku, our cinematic culture, it’s all been filtered from its source. The studios seem intent on care plan, producing big-budget special effects epics without much plot or character -- and as long as audiences choose to see these behemoth, soulless shit festivals, I suppose we’ll be forced to endure them.

I don’t mind this stuff. It’s how the wage in usa, industry has always functioned. There just needs to nursing plan, be room to breathe, that’s all. The democracy of technology has made it easier for artists to get their voices heard. Unfortunately, nobody of any real ability has been able to cortes, utilize these tools to care plan examples, propel themselves into the mainstream yet. Means of distribution will eventually change that. Either through the home manufacturing of DVDs or by the internet. At this point, though, we’re just not there. I’m also pleased that some of the filmmakers who’ve come of sirens, age lately have begun inserting more signature points of view into their work, such as Wes Anderson and Darren Aranofsky, while older holdovers like the Coen Brothers continue to go strong. It’s dispiriting to see an entire generation raised on postmodern notions of repetition and borrowing -- one without an intellectual center, since everything seems to be “relative.” The intellectual fault of this is examples, that it has no foundation; it borrowed a scientific premise based on mathematically observed facts, and incorrectly applied it to everything in life, rendering it valueless and indefeatable. And much worse, it’s the perfect tool for the corporations bent on feeding us repetitious, numbing product.

The greatest act of rebellion anyone can ever hope to hernando cortes, achieve -- and Stanley Kubrick was a prime believer in nursing care examples this -- is to actually break the mold and barnes noble uk, THINK for examples yourself: to open your eyes.
